Gay Couples Therapist in New Hampshire
Jon Prezant, LCSW, MA, CST — AASECT-Certified Sex and Couples Therapist
Couples therapy that takes the sex as seriously as the conflict. I’m a licensed clinical social worker, an AASECT-certified sex therapist, and a gay man who’s married. I work online with gay and queer couples throughout New Hampshire on desire, agreements about monogamy and openness, and repair after broken trust.
If you’re a gay couple here you’ve already run the calculation. The list of therapists doing real couples work is short, the list competent with queer relationships is shorter, and there’s a decent chance the one good option went to your friend’s wedding. I’m licensed here and I live several hundred miles away.
What I treat: low or mismatched desire, sex that stopped without a conversation, erectile difficulties and performance anxiety, the specific pressure gay men carry about bodies and stamina, sexual shame carried in from family or religion, non-monogamy agreements that need renegotiating, and the isolation of being one of very few out couples in town. LICSW #5847.
I received my MSW from Yeshiva University, MA in Trauma and Crisis Studies from Tel Aviv University, sex therapy certification through AASECT and the Modern Sex Therapy Institutes. I live in Brooklyn with my husband and our dog, Bernie, and produce music when I’m not in session.
What Gay Couples Bring In
Small Community
Being one of the only out couples in a town means there's no queer community absorbing ordinary friction. Everything lands directly on the two of you, and that's a heavier load than it sounds.
Changing The Agreement
Considering opening up, doing it badly, doing it well and hitting a new problem, or realizing one of you agreed to something he never wanted. Treated here as agreements to work, not a diagnosis.
Wanting Different Amounts
Sex means closeness to one of you and release or reassurance to the other. The difference isn't the problem. The meaning each of you makes of it — guilt on one end, abandonment on the other — is.
Dealing with Family
Parents who are polite but not warm. A family that has never quite said the thing. Twenty years on, you're still managing it, and it's costing the relationship more than either of you admits.

How Couples Therapy Works
Does online couples therapy actually work?
Yes, and here it solves the real obstacle. Secure video from your own house means no waiting room, no parking lot, and no crossing paths with anyone in your professional or social network.
How long does it take?
Most couples work weekly for four to eight months. I won’t drag it out — the point is to build capacity you keep and then stop needing me.
Is there a wait?
No. I have current openings and evening appointments Mondays and Thursdays, which is much of why couples in this state find me.
Is This For Us?
We're non-monogamous. Is that a problem?
No. I don’t treat it as pathology and I don’t treat it as automatically healthy either. It’s a set of agreements that either work or need renegotiating.
Do you take insurance?
No – $250 per session, out-of-network, monthly superbill. Insurers generally only cover couples work if one partner is given a psychiatric diagnosis and the sessions are billed as his treatment. In a state this small, keeping your relationship out of a claims system is worth something on its own.
What if our main issue is sexual?
Then you’re in the right place. I’m AASECT-certified and treat the sexual relationship alongside the relational one, which is rare anywhere and rarer here.
