Couples Therapist in NJ

Jon Prezant, LCSW, MA, CST — AASECT-Certified Sex and Couples Therapist

Couples therapy that takes the sex as seriously as the conflict. I’m a licensed clinical social worker and an AASECT-certified sex therapist, working online with couples across New Jersey. Desire that faded, the fight that keeps repeating, agreements about monogamy and openness, and repair after broken trust.

Most New Jersey couples who reach out to me aren’t in crisis. They’re competent. The mortgage gets paid, the kids get where they’re going, the calendars sync. What’s missing is everything that was never on the calendar. Two careers, a long commute, and a relationship that started being run like a company.

What I treat: low or mismatched desire, sex that has stopped altogether, erectile difficulties and performance anxiety, pain with sex, sexual shame carried in from family or religion, broken agreements, and the slow drift into being excellent roommates. I see couples across the state, evenings included, and I’m licensed here (#44SC06579900).

I hold an MSW from Yeshiva University, an MA in Trauma and Crisis Studies from Tel Aviv University, and certification in sex therapy through AASECT and the Modern Sex Therapy Institutes. I live in Brooklyn with my husband and our dog, Bernie.

What New Jersey Couples Bring In:

Fights on Repeat

Thirty topics, one argument. You can each predict the next line. We map the cycle underneath it, the attachment needs driving it, and then we interrupt it.

Wanting Different Amounts

One of you wants more sex, one wants less, and the gap has become a verdict on the marriage. It usually isn't about libido. It's about what sex means to each of you.

Growing The Distance

Kind to each other, functioning, and nothing in between. Affection became administrative somewhere around the second kid. Rebuilding that is concrete work.

Broken Trust

An affair discovered or confessed, or years of something nobody named. Whether you rebuild or not, you deserve a process that isn't one person apologizing indefinitely.

Everything you need to know about starting couples therapy in New Jersey.

How Couples Therapy Works

Yes, and for New Jersey couples it often works better. Nobody loses ninety minutes to a drive, and if one of you is at the office in Newark while the other is home, you can both still be in session. The research on telehealth couples work shows outcomes comparable to in-person.

Most couples work weekly for four to eight months. I’m not interested in keeping you in therapy forever – the goal is that you build capacity you keep, then stop needing me.

Yes, for one session each typically.

Is This For Us?

Most people arrive skeptical, usually the one who was asked to come. I don’t do open-ended processing or communication worksheets. If your partner walks out of the first session thinking it was a waste of time, I’d rather know that than schedule ten more.

Yes – LCSW #44SC06579900. I see couples anywhere in the state by secure video, from Bergen County to Cape May, and I’m relocating to New Jersey myself.

Then you’re in the right place. Most couples therapists were never trained in sex and treat it as something that resolves once communication improves. It usually doesn’t. I do both in the same room.
