Couples Therapist in New Hampshire

Jon Prezant, LCSW, MA, CST — AASECT-Certified Sex and Couples Therapist

Couples therapy that takes the sex as seriously as the conflict. I’m a licensed clinical social worker and an AASECT-certified sex therapist, working online with couples throughout New Hampshire. Desire that faded, the fight that keeps repeating, agreements about monogamy and openness, and repair after broken trust.

In much of this state the search runs into two walls. Very few therapists are trained in couples work, fewer still in sex, and the ones who are have six-month waitlists. And the good one in your town coaches your kid’s team. So the conversation gets postponed, usually for years.

What I treat: low or mismatched desire, sex that stopped without anyone naming it, erectile difficulties and performance anxiety, pain with sex, sexual shame carried in from family or religion, broken agreements, and the distance that sets in after the kids launch. Licensed here as an LICSW (#5847), statewide, no waiting list.

I hold an MSW from Yeshiva University, an MA in Trauma and Crisis Studies from Tel Aviv University, and certification in sex therapy through AASECT and the Modern Sex Therapy Institutes. I live in Brooklyn with my husband and our dog, Bernie.

What New Hampshire Couples Bring In:

Life Stage Challenges

The kids are launched or launching and you're both wondering who's actually there. Rebuilding that is specific, concrete work, not a matter of spending more time together.

Wanting Different Amounts

One wants more, one wants less. It isn't a libido problem. It's that sex means closeness to one of you and release or reassurance to the other, and each of you has built a story out of the gap.

Silence Around Sex

It stopped months or years ago and neither of you said anything. By now the quiet around it is louder than the thing itself. We start by making it sayable.

Couple Isolation

Four months in a house reveals exactly what a relationship is made of. Seasonal isolation puts pressure on couples here that couples elsewhere don't carry.

Your Questions, Answered.

Everything you need to know about starting couples therapy in New Hampshire.

How Couples Therapy Works

Yes, and in this state it removes the two real obstacles: the drive to Manchester in February and the chance of running into someone you know. Telehealth couples work shows outcomes comparable to in-person.

Most couples work weekly for four to eight months. I won’t drag it out. The point is that you build capacity you keep and then stop needing me.

No, I’m out-of-network at $250 per session, and I provide a monthly superbill. Worth knowing: insurers generally only cover couples therapy if one partner is given a psychiatric diagnosis and the sessions are billed as that person’s treatment.

Is This For Us?

Most people arrive that way, usually the one who was asked to come. I don’t do open-ended processing. I’ll say what I see and ask the question you’ve both been circling, and your partner will know by the end of the first session whether that’s useful.

No. That’s much of why couples in this state find me — I have current openings and evening appointments Mondays and Thursdays.

Then you don’t need two therapists. I’m AASECT-certified and I treat the sexual relationship and the relational one in the same room, which is rare anywhere and rarer here.
