GAY THERAPIST AND SEX THERAPIST FOR MEN
JON PREZANT, LCSW, MA, CST — AASECT-CERTIFIED SEX AND COUPLES THERAPIST
Therapy that takes gay men’s sex lives as seriously as the rest of their lives. I’m a gay man, a licensed clinical social worker, and an AASECT-certified sex therapist, and I work online with gay, bi, and queer men across New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and Florida.
Many gay men I work with have had a therapist who became visibly cautious when sex came up, or who treated their sex life as the symptom. I’ve been quoted on gay men’s sexuality in Out and VICE, and I talk about hookups, apps, porn, bottoming, and chemsex as directly as I talk about anything else.
What I help with: porn or hookups that feel out of hand, erectile difficulties and anxiety about topping or bottoming, body image and the pressure of gay male beauty standards, dating fatigue and app burnout, loneliness in your thirties, forties, and beyond, shame carried from growing up, and relationships and open arrangements.
I hold an MSW from Yeshiva University, an MA in Trauma and Crisis Studies from Tel Aviv University, and certification in sex therapy through AASECT and the Modern Sex Therapy Institutes. I live in Brooklyn with my husband and our dog, Bernie.
WHAT GAY MEN BRING IN:
APPS, HOOKUPS, AND BURNOUT
Constantly on the apps and feeling worse afterward, or off them entirely and unable to meet anyone. We look at what you're actually looking for, and at what the apps are giving you in the meantime.
THE BODY YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO HAVE
The gym, the photos, the comparison, the fear of aging out. Gay men face a particular kind of body pressure, and it shows up directly in how sex feels.
PORN AND PARTYING
When porn begins shaping what you want from real sex, or when sex without substances no longer feels possible. I approach both without moralizing and without assuming addiction.
SEX THAT ISN'T WORKING
Erections, anxiety about topping or bottoming, low desire, or difficulty staying present. Sex between men has its own specifics, and treatment should account for them.
Your Questions, Answered.
Everything you need to know about starting therapy with me.
HOW THERAPY WORKS
Do you work with bi and questioning men?
Yes. I work with bi men, men who have sex with men without using a label, men still figuring it out, and men who are married to women.
Will you judge my sexual desires?
No. I don’t hold a model of what gay sex should look like. What matters is whether your sex life is working for you.
How long does therapy take?
That depends on what you’re working on. Specific sexual concerns often improve within a few months, and we’ll review progress together along the way.
Is This For Me?
I'm HIV-positive. Is that a problem?
No. HIV status, PrEP, and the anxieties that still surround both are part of gay men’s sexual health, and they’re fully within the scope of our work.
I'm not out to everyone.
That’s fine. Sessions are private and online, and because I’m out-of-network there’s no insurance record unless you choose to submit one.
Do you take insurance?
No. I’m out-of-network. Sessions are $200, and I provide a monthly superbill you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement. Check your benefits in about a minute.
Where I work
NYC and all of New York State, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Florida. All sessions online.
